Features

Garage+ starts in its simple version: a new garage only sees the essentials (customers, vehicles, jobs with their subject and requested work, quotes, invoices, the schedule by resource, stock). Extra features of your plan are turned on here, depending on how your workshop is organised.

The Settings > Features screen opens with the Manage settings permission (see Roles and permissions).

Tick a box to turn the feature on, untick it to turn it off: the choice is saved straight away, and the menu and screens follow without reloading the page.

Each garage has a plan, Basic or Advanced, shown at the top of the screen. The Garage+ team chooses your garage’s plan and decides which features each plan includes; everything in Basic is also in Advanced.

You can only set the features of your plan. The others stay visible, with a greyed-out checkbox and the label Advanced plan: to use them, ask the Garage+ team to move your garage to the Advanced plan. A feature that no plan offers any more is labelled Not available.

When your garage changes plan, it takes effect at once:

  • moving to a plan that no longer includes a feature turns it off for the whole garage, as if you had turned it off; nothing is deleted, and your choice is kept;
  • moving back to a plan that includes it restores the state you had given it.

Turning Payments and cash register off or back on through a plan change is, like the switch, a fiscal setting change: it is recorded in your garage’s log, in the name of the Garage+ team.

  • Workers: the workers records (absences, qualifications), choosing the worker on appointments and labour lines, the job’s lead, the schedule by worker with absences and load, and the calendar-per-worker option in the garage settings. Without it, an appointment is created without a worker.
  • Time tracking: logging time spent per line and per appointment, the timer and its banner, the statistics and the printable time detail. It needs workers.
  • Work order details: on the job, symptoms, diagnosis, work done, activity, mileage on arrival and line progress. The subject and the requested work are always visible.
  • Reception and return forms: the reception form when the vehicle is dropped off and the return form when it is handed back, to fill in, print and have signed when the customer asks for it (see Workshop documents and signature). Off by default: without it, the job shows no form; forms already signed stay filed in the job’s documents.
  • Repair estimate: the estimate, an informal estimate of the work offered to the customer instead of a quote, to print, send and have signed. Off by default: the quote is enough; estimates already signed can still be viewed, downloaded and sent.
  • Repair order: the numbered repair order (OR-) and the key tag, to print, send as a PDF and have signed to hand the work over to the workshop. Off by default: the repair starts without a repair order (see below); repair orders already signed can still be viewed, downloaded and sent.
  • Payments and cash register: recording payments and deposits, the cash register (the Cash register menu entry, To collect, the cash book), the amount due on invoices, the customer’s account and statement, the payment methods and the payment blocks of the dashboard. Off by default in the simple version. A garage that had already turned on a feature, or recorded payments, keeps it on.
  • Gift cards: selling gift cards (the New › Gift card entry) and their list in the Cash register page. It requires payments. Off by default; a garage that had already sold a gift card keeps it on. See below.
  • AI assistant: the workshop assistant on a job or vehicle page, and any feature that uses artificial intelligence. Off by default for a new garage; a garage that already used the assistant keeps it on. When off, the assistant panel no longer appears, no question can be asked and no data is sent to an AI service. Questions already asked are kept for their usual period.

Time is tracked per worker: turning on time tracking also turns on workers, and turning off workers also turns off time tracking. The screen says so under the list.

Likewise, a gift card is sold and used at the cash register: turning on gift cards also turns on payments, and turning off payments also turns off gift cards.

Turning a feature off hides its screens, fields and menu entries; the data already entered stays saved and comes back when you turn the feature on again. A link or page that depends on a turned-off feature sends you to this screen (or to the home page if you are not allowed to change it).

Each member’s rights do not change: turning a feature on grants no permission.

When off, the feature removes everything that records or follows a payment:

  • the menu has no Cash register entry;
  • on a work order, no Payments, no Take payment, no deposit; Invoice and collect becomes Invoice; issuing no longer offers a third-party payer or an amount already paid; the credit note no longer offers a refund;
  • the return form no longer depends on payment;
  • the work order list has no amount due;
  • the client record has no Account tab (account and statement) and no usual payment method;
  • the garage settings have no payment methods;
  • the dashboard has no payment blocks;
  • at the counter, Take payment becomes Invoice (the invoice is issued with no payment) and gift cards are no longer offered.

Counter sales invoiced while the cash register was off have no payment: if you then turn the feature on, they show as To collect for the walk-in customer; take payment for them, or leave them as they are if they were settled outside Garage+.

Payment terms (the due date) stay everywhere: they are statements on the invoice. Nothing is deleted, everything comes back when you turn the feature on again. A deposit already collected stays deducted from the final invoice; its deposit credit note requires turning the feature back on.

When off, an issued invoice carries a Paid checkbox (Invoice card of the work order’s Documents section, see Invoicing). It is a simple reminder for you: Garage+ records no payment, no amount, no method, no payment date. Turning the feature on makes the checkbox disappear; its history is kept, and only recorded payments count.

Changing this switch is logged, and a support session cannot change it. The same goes for AI assistant: only the garage decides whether to use AI.

When off, the feature removes gift card sales:

  • the New menu has no Gift card entry;
  • the Cash register page has no Gift cards tab;
  • the Gift card payment method is no longer offered when taking payment, unless a card already sold has not expired yet.

A card already sold is still a means of payment: until it expires, the customer can still use it, the Gift card method stays offered and the balance can be read from the code. Nothing is deleted: the list comes back when you turn the feature on again.

A small workshop hands the work over by word of mouth: both documents are off by default. When off:

  • the job’s Documents section has neither a Repair estimate card nor a Repair order card (no printing, no key tag, no signature, no sending of the unsigned repair order);
  • moving to the repair stays available and is called Start the repair; the tab of the job list, the schedule filter and the home page counter are called In repair; the “Repair order” start of a new file becomes Repair;
  • Settings › Documents no longer shows the estimate row nor the repair order row (title, options, footer texts, email template), and Settings › Garage no longer offers the key tag at the bottom of the repair order; the values stay saved and come back when the feature is turned on;
  • the basic flow stays whole: job, quote, repair, invoice.

A garage that had already prepared or signed an estimate (or a repair order), or filed its PDF, before the update keeps the matching feature on.

A repair estimate or repair order already signed stays in the Documents section: it can still be viewed, downloaded, verified and sent, but no longer replaced. File numbers (R-, OR-) do not change.

  • An appointment is booked without a worker. If you turn workers on later, these appointments show on the schedule in an Unassigned column until you assign them.
  • When the forms are turned on, the return form is signed on the workshop side in the name of the signed-in member (their name is proposed and can be corrected): no worker is needed. If you turn on “Workers”, the workshop signature then names a worker.
